About

Miháltz graduated from college in 1922, but he remained a continuing student beside János Vaszary until 1927. As a result of his chosen master, Miháltz's painting was transformed, he gradually abandoned the gloomy, biblical themes, his palette brightened, and his brushwork relaxed. The painting The Prisoners of the Land from 1926 is a (distant) relative of Vaszary's painting Partial Harvesters, but István Szőnyi's artwork, On the Hilltop (1925) could be an even closer source due to the colours (deep blue and green), the depicted couple, and especially the naked man in the hat.
