About

The works of László Bartha from the second half of the 1930s are characterized by: social themes, the depiction of the working man; the use of dark, faded colours (brown, grey, off-white, rust) typical of the suburbs of big cities; a broad, dry, dynamic brushwork; the monumentalization of human figures, their massive mass and strength, which suggest the influence of both expressionism and primitive art in Bartha's art. The oil painting Fisherman, which was owned by the capital for a time, is a typical work of this period.
