Biography
He completed his studies in Nagybánya and Paris. In 1911, he exhibited for the first time in the Műcsarnok (Harvest, Stone-cutters). He was a soldier during World War I, the magazine Nyugat regularly reports on his wartime artworks. He lived in Berlin and London between the two world wars. One of the representatives of the post-impressionist style. In 1933, he had a collection exhibition at the Ernst Museum.
Based on an archival letter, it is known that Bató and his wife (writer, literary historian Sári Ferenczy) owned two Tivadar Csontváry Kosztka paintings (The Moroccan Teacher and The Athenian Stroll), which were almost lost on a bus in Berlin. In the end, they were luckily found and Bató sold them to Gedeon Gerlóczy, all of this is reported in their correspondence.
