Biography
After completing his secondary school studies, Dezső Végh applied to the Faculty of Architecture at the Technical University of Budapest, but was drafted into the army at the outbreak of World War I, so he did not finish his studies. After the war, he chose to continue his studies at the College of Applied Arts, but he also dropped out to go to Italy in 1921. He studied graphic art at the Accademia delle Belle Arti in Rome, under Professor C. A. Petrucci. From 1924, he worked as a graphic designer and advertising designer for various Italian companies, while also sending illustrations to national illustrated magazines. In 1928, he studied fashion and costume design in Paris, examined the set designs of avant-garde theatre and took part in the design of some ballet figures.
In 1936, he returned to Hungary and worked as a graphic designer, creating book covers and illustrations for various publishers. During World War II he served in the military. In 1945, he became a designer at the Kispest Textile Factory, and then a graphic designer at the State Institute of Child Psychology in Budapest. Between 1953 and 1957, until his retirement, he was a set and costume designer for the State Puppet Theatre, but he also designed sets for several plays at the Madách Chamber Theatre. After his retirement, he also painted panels and regularly participated in art exhibitions in Pest County. Solo exhibitions. In Vác, a memorial room with a selection of his works was installed.
