About

To this day, relatively few of Bartoniek's oil paintings are known, but they can tell us that she has been one of the most progressive and assured painters of the period. One of her favourite genres was portraiture, especially self-portraits and female portraits - but she also liked to take her subjects from modern metropolitan life or combine the two. At the turn of the twenties and thirties, Bartoniek's style combined elements of Cubism, Expressionism and Decarative Objectivity. Her portrait Paula was painted around the time of the founding of the New Eight.
