The picture was taken by Lenke Szemere in the late twenties, after her successful exhibition at the Ernst Museum, before her emigration to Paris. It was during this period that she began to let go of the realistic, romantic tradition of her masters, István Réti and Adolf Fényes, and replaced her naturalism with a softer style of painting, with a theme of people's everyday lives.
