The ghetto decree was issued on 28 April 1944, which "provided for the requisition of the housing of Jews and the designation of new housing", and for their transfer to collective camps. In the autumn of 1944, many artists were forced into the Budapest ghetto. In several distressed line drawings in the ghetto, Magda Frank captured Jewish families leaving their homes with the yellow star on their coats and in their hands whatever they could suddenly pack into a sack or bag.
