Alice Bélaváry

1901 - 1972

Biography

Alice Bélaváry attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest between 1925 and 1929. Her master was János Vaszary, through whom she joined the Asssociation of New Artists (UME), founded in 1923. Her husband, the painter Ödön Vaszkó, was also a member, as well as a founding member of UME. Alice Bélaváry occasionally created under the name Vaszkó Ödönné, but after her husband's suicide in 1954, she took back her maiden name. From the end of the 20s, they painted together during summers with Erzsébet Vaszkó, Judit Beck and Emil Krocsák at Drégelypalánk in Nógrád County. In the 1930s, she exhibited regularly in the Tamás Gallery, the Fränkel Salon and the Ernst Museum.
