Biography
Győző Somogyi (Budapest, 1942) is a Hungarian graphic artist and painter. Between 1956 and 1960 he studied at the Fine Arts High School. Between 1960 and 1964, he worked at the Kossuth Printing House as an assistant and then as a skilled worker, where he learned duplicating graphic processes. Between 1962 and 1975, he turned to the priestly profession.
At the beginning of the seventies, he started working with screen printing. During the 1970s and 1980s, he traveled to Paris, Rome, Romania, and Greece, which had a great influence on him. He has been organizing graphic exhibitions since 1973. Since 1980, he has mainly been painting. In 1980, he played an important role in organizing the Szeta auction. He has lived and farmed in Salföld since 1985.
He draws the themes of his art from everyday life, nature, the Bible and historical events. He is characterized by a traditional icon-like historic-folk style, but the trends of the 20th century, including constructivist art, also influenced him, especially his landscape paintings.
