Biography

Dezső Bokros Birman is one of the most outstanding figures of 20th century Hungarian sculpture. Graphic artist, sculptor. He studied at the College of Applied Arts from 1908 to 1910, with masters Lajos Mátrai, Géza Maróti and Imre Simay. He has studied in Vienna, Munich and Poland. In 1911 he went to Paris and studied there. His first collection exhibition was in 1918, organized by KÉVE (Association of Fine and Applied Artists). After 1919 he left the country, working in Berlin, Vienna, Paris and Bratislava. He became acquainted with expressionism in Berlin, which was decisive throughout his art. He had exhibitions in Berlin, Paris and the Tamás Gallery, Adolf Fényes Hall, and in 1957 he had a collection exhibition in Műcsarnok. He received the Kossuth Prize and the Meritorious Artist Award for his work. His works can be found in the National Gallery, Hungary.
