József Breznay

Biography

József Breznay was a painter. At the Budapest Academy of Fine Arts, his teacher was Ágost Benkhard, then István Szőnyi. Between 1939 and 1941, he worked as Szőnyi's assistant. In 1939, he was awarded the college's gold medal. From 1939 to 1941, and then in 1947, he was a Rome scholarship holder. In 1941-42, he received the Szinyei Prize, in 1953 the Munkácsy Prize, in 1958 the István Csók Memorial Medal, and in Deauville he was awarded the Grand Prix and in Brussels a bronze medal. Among other things, he worked at the Miskolc artist colony, and from 1957 he was a member of the Independants Salon in Paris. He is the president of the Mednyánszky Society. Since his college days, he has participated in various exhibitions all over the world, having had more exhibitions in Germany, France, Italy, and England than in Hungary. In 1982, he organized a retrospective exhibition of his works at the Műcsarnok.
