Vilmos Nagy

Biography

Painter Vilmos Nagy was born in Budapest in 1874. He studied at the Budapest Model Drawing School, then trained in the Netherlands and Paris. His teacher was Károly Lotz. He worked in Nagybánya during the summer, where he was corrected by Simon Hollósy. From 1895 he participated in the exhibitions of the Műcsarnok. In 1909 he presented his work at the Klotild Palace, and in 1910 he organized a collective exhibition of his works in the capital. He participated in exhibitions in London and Munich, and also presented his work in several other European cities. In 1908 he won a gold medal in London, in 1922 he was awarded the Halmos Prize, and in 1923 he was awarded the Grand Prize of the Friends of Art. Several of his paintings can be found in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts.
