Biography

Alfréd Feiks was a painter born in Bród (now Croatia) in 1880. He studied in Munich, Paris and London. His teacher was Simon Hollósy. He first appeared at the exhibitions of the Könyves Kálmán Salon (1908, 1909, 1910) together with his brother Jenő with impressionistic, colorful spots, landscapes painted with broad brushstrokes. Later he exhibited his landscapes and small-figure mass compositions in the Műcsarnok. He bought his painting May in the capital. In 1910 he was elected a member of the Berlin Secession. In the 1910s and 1920s, he also had several exhibitions in Western Europe, such as in Vienna and Switzerland.

 

In 1914 he returned to Hungary and settled in Budapest. His paintings were exhibited in national and international exhibitions from the 1910s to the mid-1940s, such as the Könyves Kálmán Salon, the Műcsarnok, the National Salon and the National Hungarian Fine Arts Society. In 1919, he was contracted to the Belvárosi Színház and the Andrássy út Színház as a stage manager. He also wrote fine arts articles and art criticism for Hungarian magazines and newspapers. The Ernst Museum organized five solo exhibitions of his works between 1917 and 1932. One of his paintings is in the collection of the Hungarian National Gallery.
