György Ruttkay

Biography

His talent was discovered by Lajos Kassák in 1918, and on his advice he applied to the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts in 1920. In 1922 he studied at the Berlin Academy (Rheimann School). At the First Russian Art Exhibition in 1922 in Berlin. he became acquainted with the Russian avant-garde, the aspirations of Tatlin and Malevich, and came into contact with Sturm. The use of squares and diagonal arrangements was characteristic of his works at that time.  He lived in Vienna in 1920, and in Berlin and Munich from 1922 to 1923.
