Tibor Boromisza

Biography

Tibor Boromisza was a Hungarian painter. He began his studies at the Nagybánya artist colony in 1904 with Károly Ferenczy. Later he visited Rome, Paris and Munich. Boromisza felt such a strong commitment to painting that he gave up his career as a military officer. He visited many Hungarian landscapes, painted a lot, and from 1906 he already had several collection exhibitions in Budapest and in the countryside. In 1906 and 1914 he had his picture exhibitions in the Könyves Kálmán Salon, in 1907 he exhibited among MIÉNK, from 1909 in the Art House and the Belvedere, and in 1928 in the National Salon.

 

Boromisza belonged to the Neos in Nagybánya, he sharply opposed the older masters, and was therefore excommunicated, and for this reason he left Nagybánya. He lived and worked in Szatmárnémeti until 1918, after the First World War he settled in Budapest, from 1945 to 1953 he lived in Keszthely, then from 1954 until his death in Szentendre.

 

Around 1927, he painted typical figures of shepherd life in Hortobágy. In 1933, it was started by Eke c. illustrated magazine, which published peasant writings and pictures of peasants. He also worked as a critic for Függetlenség. In the last years of his life, he worked in Szentendre, where he died.
