Biography
István Szigethy was a student of Károly Ferenczy and Tivadar Zemplényi at the College of Fine Arts. He later studied in Nagybánya and Munich. He became good friends with Ede Bohacsek, whose portrait he also painted in 1913. In 1916 his ex libris volume was published in Kolozsvár with a preface by Frigyes Karinthy. He published an etching folder entitled Grotesque in 1922, for which Dezső Kosztolányi wrote an introduction. He lived in Berlin from the late 1920s until 1932, and his drawings appeared regularly in the Jugend. After returning home, he became one of the most popular cartoonists in the Budapest newspapers. Szigethy took self-portraits of himself several times.
