Mária Turán Hacker

Biography

Mária Turán Hacker was a Hungarian painter. She was born in Kecskemét as the son of merchant Lajos Hacker and Lina Ligeti. She finished high school for girls in Budapest, and then obtained a drawing teacher's certificate at the Academy of Fine Arts. At the same time, she was a student of Kálmán Chovan at the Academy of Music and received a teaching diploma with distinction. She then studied painting in Munich, Paris and Nagybánya.


After her return home, she appeared in the Műcsarnok for the first time with a painting titled House Construction on Rose Hill. Later, she organized a collective exhibition at the National Salon, but also exhibited at the exhibitions of Kunsthalle in Budapest. In Genoa, she exhibited with the UME artist group. Nikola Taneff's exhibition at the National Salon was particularly successful with her paintings titled Fire and Volga.


In 1912, she held her first solo concert in the Great Hall of the Royal. Her interpretation of Schumann at this concert was a hit received with praise by the press and the audience. Later, she held several independent concerts in Vienna and participated in several concerts.
