Jenő Szantrucsek

Biography

Jenő Szantrucsek was born in Munich as the son of a Czech glass painter. He studied goldsmithing at the School of Applied Arts in Munich, and after moving to Hungary he became a student of Adolf Fényes. During the summer, he worked in Nagybánya, and later at the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest, János Vaszary became his master. He was a member of the UME (Union of New Artists) made up of young artists and the KUT (New Society of Fine Artists) registered as the successor of the Eight. He visited Paris several times: in 1929 and 1931 he spent several months in the city, where an exhibition of his works was organized. After 1935 he worked as an industrial artist, and in 1943 and 1944 he worked as a painter and art teacher in Athens.
