Géza Faragó

1877 - 1928

Biography

He began his studies in 1898 in Paris with Mucha and Colarossi. After his return home, he had his first exhibition at the National Salon in 1900. After several more years in Paris, he studied in Szolnok with Adolf Fényes and in Kecskemét with Béla Iványi-Grünwald, then settled in Budapest. His richness of ideas and his art nouveau posters, full of original humour, had a great influence on the development of poster art in Hungary. He also designed decorations and drew caricatures. From 1910 to 1915, he was a scenic designer at the King's Theatre, later at the Budapest Operetta Theatre, and later at the UFA film factory. His ballet Hungarian Wedding was performed in London for a year.
